Connect finerd to ChatGPT

What it does

Lets ChatGPT query and edit your finerd ledger — spending, accounts, transactions, bills, reports, and tags. Works as a custom MCP connector with OAuth.

Prerequisites

A ChatGPT account — Free, Plus, Pro, Business/Enterprise all work (a paid plan is no longer required).
Developer mode enabled (Settings → Apps → Advanced → Developer mode).

How to connect

Ask ChatGPT to set it up

In ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Add → Add custom connector.
MCP server URL:https://api.finerd.ai/mcp
Give it a name (e.g. Finerd) and accept the trust prompt for third-party connectors.
Sign in with your finerd account.
Choose access level (Read-only or Read & Write).
Open a new chat and pick the Finerd connector from the Tools menu (the "+" / paperclip area) to start asking about your finances.

If ChatGPT says it can’t see or call the Finerd tools: press "Retry" on its reply and choose "Think longer" — in our testing this makes the tools available immediately and the request runs. If it still refuses, start a new chat, or connect via Claude or the Antigravity CLI instead (same URL). ChatGPT may also claim it made a change without actually calling the tool, so verify edits in the Finerd app.

Permissions

You pick at sign-in time:

Read-only — ChatGPT can read your data but not modify it. Good default for "ask my finances" use cases.
Read & Write — ChatGPT can also create, edit, and delete transactions, transfers, and tags.

Access tokens expire after 30 days. Compatible clients refresh the connection automatically before expiry. If refresh expires or fails, reconnect in your AI client.

Get Transaction — full details with journal breakdown
List Accounts — your bank accounts, wallets, debts
List Categories — expense and income categories
List Bills — receipts and invoices with line items
Get Bill — full bill details
Search Merchants — find merchants by name
Search Tags — find tags by name
List Spaces — your available spaces (Personal / Business)
Get Account Balances — balance per account at any date
Get Expense / Income / Cash Flow / Net Worth Reports — aggregated views
Verified Balances — your manually confirmed account balances
Asset Rates — currency and asset exchange rates

What ChatGPT can do (write, requires Read & Write access)

Create / Update / Delete Transaction — record or fix expenses, incomes, refunds, debt-pays
Create Complex Transaction — split transactions across multiple categories or accounts
Create Transfer — record an internal transfer between two of your tracked finerd accounts (this is a ledger entry in finerd — it does not move real money or interact with your bank)
Create / Update Tag — manage your tag taxonomy
Manage Rewards & Points — record points earnings, monthly accruals, and redemptions on reward accounts
Create Accounts — add cash, bank, debt, and reward accounts

What ChatGPT cannot do

Move actual funds anywhere — finerd is a personal ledger; banks are read-only sources.
Access other users' data — every request is scoped to your account.
Read your ChatGPT conversation history or files.

Privacy & data

Disconnect

You can stop ChatGPT's access at any time in ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Disconnect.
